The pretty mountain stream, which rises at the foot of Rocky Knob and Snowball Mountain of the Craggy Mountain range in Buncombe County, North Carolina, was written in old court records as Rims Creek, but by the 1850’s it became known as Reems Creek. It wanders through the valley for about twenty miles in an east to west direction before emptying into the French Broad River about 8 miles north of Asheville. Reems Creek was one of the first valleys settled by Europeans in the late 18th century. Early in the 19th century, Reems Creek was noted for having one of the first water powered wool mills and also became known for being the birthplace of Zebulon Vance, civil war governor.
